Abstract

The force between surfaces bearing mobile, orientable dipoles is analyzed in a dielectric continuum model that includes the difference in dielectric permittivity on either side of the surfaces. The basis for the approach is a recently derived perturbation formula for the interaction free energy. The necessary input to the perturbation expression, the dipole susceptibility for a single surface, is obtained from Monte Carlo simulations
