Abstract

The modulation of B-lymphocyte function by specifically sensitized T-lymphocytes in the production of humoral antibodies is now one of the most thoroughly investigated aspects in immunology. The role of B-lymphocyte function in controlling T-lymphocyte action in the production of delayed hypersensitivity has received far less attention. If one was to consider ‘immunological enhancement’ of tumour growth as the suppression of the cell-mediated immune function of T-lymphocytes by the products of specifically sensitized B-lymphocytes (humoral antibody), it is clear that the modulation of T-lymphocytes by B-lymphocytes is receiving equal attention at least in the fields of tumour and transplantation immunology. However, there has been little investigation of such a role in other reactions in which cell-mediated immunity is involved.
