Abstract

Perturbed angular correlation measurements were performed with $^{111}\mathrm{In}$ in dilute alloys of Ag with Cu, Zn, Ga, and Ge impurities. It was demonstrated that In atoms attract Cu and repel Zn, Ga, and Ge impurities from its nearest neighborhood in the silver matrix. The energy of this interaction was determined and discussed in the framework of two existing models. The entropy of formation found for the In-Cu, In-Zn, and In-Ga pairs agrees very well with the number of ways in which the pair can be formed in the fcc lattice.
