Abstract
We suggest a new mechanism of interaction of defects, caused by the coupling of defects to the optical phonon field. We also examine the possibility of spontaneous formation of Frenkel defect pairs due to their attraction, and the phase transition in a defect system. The results are applied for the explanation of particularities of the ferroelectric phase transition in Pb 1- y Ge y Te alloys.
