Abstract

Interacting twisted and untwisted scalar fields are studied in a non-Minkowskian space-time with the topology S 1 × R 3. Renormalization of the theory is discussed, and the oneloop effective potential is calculated and used to discuss symmetry breaking and mass generation as a consequence of the non-trivial topology. It is found that an interaction between the twisted and untwisted fields can lead to symmetry breaking.
