Sivjee, G. G. ; Romick, G. J. ; Rees, M. H. Abstract The intensity ratio and center wavelengths of O(+) lines at 7320 and 7330 A are measured during an aurora containing a large flux of low energy electrons, in which hydroxyl emission is negligible. Correcting for OH and N2 contributions to O(+) emissions yields an 7320 A/7330 A line intensity ratio of 1.55 + or - 0.05. Possible explanations of the 17 to 22% discrepancy between theoretical and experimental values of the ratio include errors in calculated transition probabilities and unexpected level populations. The center wavelength of the 7320 A O(+) (2P 1/2, 3/2 - 2D 5/2) doublet is found to be 7320.1 + or 0.2 A and that of the 7330 A O(+) (2P 1/2, 3/2 - 2D 3/2) doublet is 7330.2 + or - 0.2 A.
