Abstract
The intensity of forbidden lines ( Delta M=1, Delta m=2) in ESR spectra of S-state ions Mn2+ has been measured in the axial field of alpha -Al2O3. An intensity spin operator that leads to a simple description of experimental results is derived. These theoretical results are compared with the description given by the method of Bir (1963) and by perturbation calculations.
