Abstract

It is shown experimentally that the nonsymmetric behavior of the beam-coupling gain coefficient of BaTiO3 crystals with respect to the sense of the c axis is caused by an intensity-dependent absorption coefficient. It is also found that the actual coupling gain coefficient is dependent on the intensity, even after it is compensated for by the nonsymmetric component. The temperature dependence of the absorption coefficient is measured.
