Abstract

The Yb3+/Tm3+ with Ag codoped TeO2-Li2O-WO3-Ge2O-Yb2O3-Tm2O3-Ag2O (TWLGTYA) germane-tellurite glasses are prepared by high temperature melt-quenching method and growth of the Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) was controlled by thermal annealing process. In presence of AgNPs in TWLGTY glasses produce intense blue and red emission of Tm3+ ions under 980nm excitation is investigated. For 0.7 mol% of Ag with 7hrs reheat-treated TWLGTYA samples is attributed to the enhanced 653nm and 488nm emission corresponding to transition 1G4→ 3F4 and 1G4→ 3H6 respectively due to the local field on the Tm3+ ions locations. DSC result of the glass has excellent thermal properties, for which the value of ΔT reaches upto 135°C which may potential applications fibers for solid state lasers materials. Results show that Ag NPs play significantly role to enhancement of red and blue emission Tm3+ ions by local field by surface plasmon resonance. Also incorporation of Yb3+ into TWLGTYA glass can effectively improve the 653 nm emission could be useful in the field of sensor materials. It is intrinsically associated with the three photons upconversion and with highly efficient upconvesion in presence of AgNPs possible process has been discussed.
