Abstract
In 1998 at a meeting in the Netherlands with a group of international engineering educators from TU Delft, University of Utrecht, Eindhoven University and Kaiserslautern University, the INTEnD Program (International Networked Teams for Engineering Design) was created. The INTEnD program links multidisciplinary research groups from participating institutions from around the world for the purpose of studying and practicing how dispersed engineering product design teams can function more effectively. Issues of leadership, power, trust, language, time differences, cultural differences, communication and education differences pose critical barriers to the dispersed teams in addition to the many technical issues that the engineering design process normally poses on a design team.
