This essay discusses the interrelationship of intentionality, invention and reduction to the absurd in Edmundo O'Gorman's La invencion de America. The question of the reduction to the absurd has a long history that goes from Parmenides to Marx. O'Gorman's reduction to the absurd, like Marx’s, speaks of fetishism.
