Abstract

In recent years, there has been a growing trend of developing and constructing network-type underground loops in urban central business districts (CBDs) to complement interconnected underground spaces. However, the high volume of arrival and departure traffic, the impact of traffic patterns, and the complexity of traffic organization in CBD areas pose challenges to the efficient operation of underground loops. Accurate identification of congestion patterns and effective traffic control strategies are crucial to enhance capacity and ensure safe operations of underground loop systems. This paper presents a simulation analysis of morning and evening peak traffic scenarios in a designed underground loop to identify congestion patterns and their underlying causes. Based on the analysis, a combination of traffic control strategies, including ramp control, plot control, and fast entry without railing, is proposed and evaluated through simulations. The findings of this study serve as a reference for developing traffic congestion control measures in underground loop systems, contributing to improved capacity and safe operations.
