Abstract

In order to meet the requirements of high-speed, low delay and high-capacity services, 5G RAN(Radio Access Network) has adopted technologies such as high frequency, large bandwidth and large-scale antenna. A report from GSMA suggests that the energy consumption of 5G RAN is about 3 ∼ 5 times that of 4G RAN. The energy saving of 5G RAN has become the top priority in the mobile operators all over the world. This Paper firstly introduces the needs and scenarios of 5G RAN energy saving. Then, analyzes the key factors of energy consumption, the main principles and the core technologies of 5G Ran energy saving. Thirdly, explores the prospect of 5G RAN energy saving technology combined with AI technology. Finally, propose the evaluation system of the 5G RAN energy saving. This paper provides knowledge reserve and technical reference for the business and operation of 5G RAN energy saving technology of mobile operators and equipment manufacturers.
