Abstract

The authors propose a network architecture for IDMN (Intelligent Digital Mobile Communications Network), a large digital network in which intelligent services are provided as UPT services. IDMN is a hierarchical network consisting of an intelligent layer and a transport layer. From the viewpoint of service control, the intelligent layer is divided into two sublayers. This configuration is based on the IN (intelligent network) concept. From the viewpoint of call connection control, the transport layer is divided into three sublayers. The intelligent layer requires location registers for both PTN (personal telecommunications number) and mobile station identity (MSI) to independently guarantee personal mobility and terminal mobility. The transport layer of a large-scale network needs pursuit-transit switching capability that defines the PRN (pursuit routing number) for inter-MSC use. The characteristics of the signaling protocol applied to IDMN, in which personal and terminal mobility are independently guaranteed, are described. Authentication procedures for PTN and MSI are also indicated. >
