Abstract

Abstract Intelligent Controllers, that is, controllers being designed and implemented following some of the existing Artificial Intelligence techniques, are becoming the next generation of industrial controllers. In this paper an overview of the most interesting issues in these controllers, as new control devices, is presented. The controller structure and features, its connection to the process, the challenging software and hardware implementation issues, and the available design tools, are reviewed. An industrial application illustrates the feasibility of some of these new concepts.
