Abstract
The paper describes a novel approach to the control of large power transformer cooling. An intelligent controller is proposed taking elements of fuzzy logic and neural networks, together with recent advances in sensor technologies. This controller drives the cooling system to operate in flow and temperature regimes which limit the problem of streaming electrification while minimising thermal degradation of the insulation. A simplified example is given to demonstrate the viability of the proposed controller.
