Abstract

Drowsiness and exhaustion are the major reasons responsible for auto-mobile drivers having reduced driver's abilities to control vehicle, natural reflex, recognition and perception. It is due to such diminishing vigilance level of driver that is being observed at night driving, causes accidents and pose severe threat to mankind and society. Inorder to understand the attention level of drivers, eye movement can be used. In drivers attention plays a significant potential to enhance driving safety. Here it presents a real time system for monitoring a driver's vigilance. Since human eyes contains much information about the driver's condition like gaze, attention level and fatigue, Eye tracking is used as one of the key technologies for future driver assistance systems. In this project, attempts have been made to create a real-time system to collect driver's eye gaze. It is based on a hardware system used for the real-time acquisition of drivers and the software implementation is for monitoring eyes that can avoid the accidents. By analyzing information regarding distance between obstacles in the passage way and the vehicle and driver's vigilance level, we can actively prevent vehicular accidents, thereby improving the driver safety as well as we can also provide an assistance in case drivers get distracted. Here it creates an inexpensive eye tracking based system to accurately detect if driver's eye is distracted or not. The system does not require any driver-dependent calibration or manual initialization and works in real time. In the recent trend incoperating driver assistance system to detect drowsiness and fatigue is of atmost importance.
