Abstract

The accumulated experience in processing information and studying the information content of acoustic emission control parameters made it possible to use them to increase the reliability of monitoring and assessing the condition of pipelines. This work is devoted to the study of changes in the amplitude of acoustic emission signals from various types of sources. The paper solves the problem of achieving the optimal ratio of channel sensitivity, location accuracy and assessing the danger degree of sources during acoustic emission control of pipelines. The article contains the results of acoustic emission control the samples made of low-alloy and low-carbon steels when exposed to various types of loads, namely, static, dynamic and combined. In addition, the samples had different stress concentrators of two types. During the work, it was found that the distribution of signals in amplitudes from different types of sources has a power-law dependence. However, the parameters of this distribution change ambiguously. The use of data from the acoustic emission testing for assessing the risk of defects in an object is possible only when using probabilistic methods for assessing and combining the results with data from other non-destructive testing methods.
