Abstract

Experience has shown that the fulfilment of integrity requirements for the data of a database-supported patient information system is a multifacet task. The integrity control cannot be limited to syntactic conditions in the data description. Its importance and complexity increases with the degree of information integration. On the basis of the experience gained in developing and operating the central patient database of the Medical System Hannover, the integrity problems and concepts for their solution are systematically presented and explained by examples.
