Abstract

This chapter explores integrative nursing in the United Kingdom. It is postulated that the term “integrative nursing” is not commonly found in U.K. literature. Instead, “holistic nursing,” “person-centered care,” and “therapeutic relationships” are major areas of emphasis that are aligned with the integrative nursing construct. A case study illuminates the essence of integrative nursing in practice in the U.K. by referring to an approach called the “Caring Behaviours Assurance System” CBAS© which has been implemented by NHS Scotland in 2011. This approach is both an educational development for healthcare staff and also an accountability and assurance model for organizations seeking to assure the presence of “holistic nursing” “person centered care” and therapeutic relationships in practice. The goal is to care for patients and staff using an integrated systems approach.
