Abstract

The performance of millimeter-wave (mmW) and terahertz systems could be significantly enhanced by integration with low-loss all-ceramic monolithic subsystems. So far, little attention has been given to all-ceramic multi-component subsystems due to the difficulty and cost of fabrication. The emerging technology of ceramic stereolithography has been used to construct extremely complex passive mmW components, but a general method to integrate several components in a modular subsystem does not yet exist. This paper proposes the use of single-mode photonic crystal-clad waveguides and demonstrates their construction using ceramic stereolithography.
