Abstract

With the rise in global warming, requirements for more energy, distributed generation comprising of mini-hydro, solar energy, biomass, wind energy employing microturbines and fuel cells have gained significant impetus. The distributed generation, power driven by several nonconventional and renewable microsources offer great benefits such as environmental friendliness, adaptability and expandability, so an attractive alternative for designing upcoming electrical grids. Incorporation of renewable energy sources to the existing power grid has always been a challenging task as they depend on meteorological factors. So in order to curb these effects various power conditioning and control techniques are used. Efforts have been made to integrate one renewable energy source at a time. However, integrating a combination of renewable sources, called hybrid renewable energy, to form a microgrid fetches better energy demand than harnessing them individually. This paper presents a microgrid consisting of solar and wind as the renewable energy sources and diesel generator. The performance of proposed Microgrid model and control techniques for its dual mode operation has been analyzed using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
