Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the possibilities of the integration of geographic information systems (GIS) and rule-based expert systems, and propose an outline of the integrated system architecture, based on client-server techniques. Expert systems are one of intelligent system technologies that enables to make use of expert knowledge for solving problems. The integration of GIS and expert systems is an important activity that enhances the value of GIS. An example of integrating a GIS and expert system is presented.
