Abstract

Geological conditions capable of causing damage, or loss of property and life, are called geological hazards and commonly referred to as "geohazards". Geohazards are recognised as a major threat for the society leading the scientific community into introducing various methodologies for susceptibility, hazard and risk assessments.The integration of these assessments into Urban Planning and Management can significantly enlarge society resilience to geohazards. For an effective integration of geohazards into Urban Planning and Management specific actions are needed: common guidelines, legislation for planning policies.Specific methodologies for hazard assessment specially designed for Urban planning with selected case studies are presented together with a description of relevant Greek legislation.
