Abstract

Pulsed fiber laser systems provide flexible pulses in a wide range of lengths and repetition rates while maintaining a constant beam quality. Various aspects of the integration of a high power single transverse mode Yb-doped fiber laser incorporating three stages will be investigated and the results will be presented.Pulsed high power fiber lasers in industrial applications must cover various parameter ranges. The requirements will be examined and the system parameters will be derived.A high beam quality is maintained by single mode single clad fibers. Due to the high pump power level the absorption equation cannot be used for optimizing the length of the amplification fibers. The results of experiments that were conducted to optimize the length will be presented.Components that are incorporated into the power amplifier system will be investigated. To exceed the power limitations of single mode fibers, large mode area fiber is employed in the final, high power stage. In order to maintain a high beam quality and a monolithic setup between single mode and LMA fiber, single mode excitation using tapering or coiling is required. These technologies will be examined.Material processing experiments using the MOPA fiber laser have been conducted. They showed that depending on the parameter/material combination a certain degree of output isolation is required to operate the system. The measurement results will be presented.Aspects of the system integration will be discussed. Essential hardware components that are required to create durable and secure operating conditions will be examined. In order to integrate the hardware components various control concepts for the fiber laser system have been developed and evaluated. The results will be presented.Pulsed fiber laser systems provide flexible pulses in a wide range of lengths and repetition rates while maintaining a constant beam quality.
