Abstract

Abstract Industrial companies rely on flexible production systems to successfully persist on the global market. Regarding batch automation, modifiable recipes allow a certain grade of flexibility. However, applied control systems are based on centralized control structures that lack reconfiguration capabilities. IEC 61499 introduces an object-based programming paradigm to factory automation and represents a reasonable choice for developing a distributed intelligent control system based on reusable and flexible control software for intelligent sensor/actuator units. In this paper we present an implementation of this approach within the concepts of the industrial standard IEC 61512 to show the feasibility for the applicability in practice.
