Abstract

The integrated Design System of waterjet and its design example are briefly presented including 3-D inverse design of pump, 3-D CAD parametric modeling of inlet duct, 3-D Navier-Stokes flow analysis of pump and inlet duct and Finite Element Analysis of pump. After iteratively optimization based on the CFD analysis, the final design of the waterjet pump and inlet duct were manufactured. The results of the waterjet pump bench test and its CFD simulation were presented and discussed briefly, the errors of the pump Head and Power between the CFD simulation and pump bench test were below 4% in the whole calculating region. In order to prove the validity of the integrated design system, the new waterjet was also installed after the ship for official trial voyage, and the result indicate that: the ship speed propelled by the mixed flow waterjet was higher than that of the old propeller by 9.4%. The use of this modern design system leads to a drastic reduction of the development time of pumps having high performance, high reliability and modern design concepts.
