Abstract

This study proposed the principle of spark discharge using an EDM system programmable controller as the control core, and further explored the process optimization of nano metal particles. The proposed system was used to change the discharge pulse cycle time and verify the results by spectrophotometer. Its purpose was to increase the concentration, as well as the degree of dispersion and mean particle size of nano metal fluids, in order to improve the potency of future applications. According to the above EDM process parameter optimization, nano silver has the optimal control parameters in the discharge cycle 30–30us; while nano copper has the optimal control parameters in the discharge cycle 10–10us. This study realized the advantages of no addition of other chemicals, simple low-cost process, and potential for continuous mass production for the pursuit of long time (over one year) stable suspension of pure nano metal fluids in deionized water.
