Abstract

Abstract A linear program matrix was structured to model forested state and private and all federal land in the Rio Grande River Basin of Colorado. The model schedules timber harvests, stand treatments, and range improvements in a manner responsive to the need for timber and economic efficiency on one hand and the desire to optimize wilderness and environmental quality on the other. It also facilitates quantification of trade-offs. An input-output model is used to trace the effects of alternative plans on the region's economy.
