Abstract
The integration of electrodeposited polymers with alkanethiol self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold was studied. Hexadecanethiol (HDT) was used for the modification of gold electrodes and subsequently polytyramine was electrochemically polymerised into the defect sites of the HDT monolayer. The barrier properties of the modified gold electrode before and after polymerisation were studied using ferricyanide as a redox probe. Characteristics similar to pinhole-free SAM-modified gold electrodes were obtained.
