Abstract

Teaching about the formation and evolution of programs and policies for the elderly is part of many courses in social gerontology; however, the course work often does not explore the role of case law in the formation of public policy for the elderly. Two case studies are described which can be used in the classroom to demonstrate how court decisions have changed gerontological policy and programs. Also discussed are some of the fundamental concepts that these case studies illustrate.
