Abstract
Abstract The process of risk-and-uncertainty assessment in water resources is examined within a multiobjective framework. In this context, appropriate methodologies — the surrogate worth trade-off (SWT) method, the multiobjective statistical method (MSM), the partitioned multiobjective risk method (PMRM), the risk dispersion index method (RDIM), and the uncertainty sensitivity index method (USIM) — are very briefly discussed. A need for an approach that integrates the assessment of risk and uncertainty within a multiobjective framework, accounting for random variables with both known and unknown probability distributions is suggested. This paper is dedicated to the memory of Ven Te Chow, a distinguished educator, prominent researcher, renowned scholar and dedicated public servant, who dominantly influenced the field of hydrology and water resources.
