Abstract

AbstractThis paper provides an overview of the following: the integrated pest management (IPM) system; new developments in IPM in the areas of policy framework, pest diagnostic and monitoring tools, biotechnology and biological pesticides, precision agriculture technology and geographical information systems, biological pest management, farmer empowerment, and information, communication and education; international initiatives in IPM (UN-FAO Plant Protection Service, global IPM facility, USAID IPM Collaboration Research Support Program, CGIAR SP-IPM, IPMEurope/IPMForum, CABI Bioscience, CICP, CPITT at the University of Queensland, national IPM centres and programmes, NSF Center for IPM, and ICIPE and Africa IPM Forum); and goals and objectives of the Global IPM Book.
