Abstract
The state of the art of integrated optics in LiNbO3 is briefly described. In particular, titanium indiffusion and proton exchange are introduced as the most important waveguide fabrication technologies. Selected examples of passive and active integrated optical devices are presented, which demonstrate current developments. Among them are Bragg reflector gratings, electro-optical modulators, an acousto-optical r.f.-spectrum analyzer and parametric oscillators. Finally, integrated optical circuits for signal processing applications in fiber-optical communication and sensor systems are discussed. They comprise a combination of several passive and active devices on a common LiNbO3 substrate.
