Abstract

A multiple-stage method is described for the separation and identification of neutral polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in complex coal liquids. This method results in chemically less complex sub-fractions which enable more detailed characterisation of both trace level and major neutral PAH components. The applicability of this multi-stage separation method is demonstrated with an SRC-II material.
