Abstract
The drillsite of the German Continental Deep Drilling Project (KTB) is located in the south-east part of Germany at the western margin of the Bohemian Massif, the largest outcrop of crystalline rocks in central europe. The KTB main hole was drilled to a final depth of 9101 m, penetrating high metamorphic rock sequences of the Zone of Erbendorf Vohenstraus. Due to the technical concept of the KTB-project, the main hole (KTB-HB) was cored to a reduced scale only. It was the refore re asonable to develop a technique to reproduce the lithology by means of geophysical logs run in both holes, the KTB-pilot (KTB-VB) and the KTB-main hole. Since the 4 km deep pilot hole was cored and logged completely a unique possibility was given to calibrate the logging data with the drilled lithology.
