Abstract

The paper reports an integrated approach to developing effective control strategies for power system voltage stability enhancement, which is essentially a combination use of the sensitivity method and the singular value decomposition method. Effective control strategies are presented through systematically using the ranking information of weak buses/areas, critical generators/SVCs, critical OLTCs and critical transmission lines in terms of voltage stability. System loadability calculated by sensitivity methods is used to quantify the effectiveness of various control devices. The proposed methodology aims to provide the right control at the right locations with right amount to achieve maximum increase of loadability. The effectiveness of the approach was demonstrated on the IEEE 30-bus system and the IEEE 57-bus system.
