Abstract

With the rapid development of wind power in China, large-scale wind power transmission is inevitable. Wind energy is volatile and intermittent, and can not be transported separately over long distances. The bundling of wind power and thermal power has become a research direction of widespread concern. This paper firstly introduces a large-scale wind power plant connected with large capacity thermal power plant in North China, and establishes an equivalent model through PSCAD/EMTDC. Then, for the equivalent model, the risk of sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) is analyzed by using time-domain simulation. The results indicate that the SSO is possible if the wind turbine converter control parameters are unreasonable and the transmission system is connected to a weak AC system, which can increase the oscillation of the thermal generator. Furthermore, a monitoring method of SSO for large-scale wind power connected with large capacity thermal power plant is proposed. The effectiveness of the method is verified by electromagnetic transient simulation.
