Abstract

A method for the comparative assessment of the regrow capacity (the ability of plants to the after-mowing recovery of above-ground biomass) of herbs in natural plant communities has been proposed. The method is based on the combined use of biomass parameters and the data on the number of shoots for the cases of the single and double removal of the biomass. The regrow capacity of 42 alpine species from four different plant communities has been assessed. The average weighted regrow capacity score decreases in the following series: Geranium-Hedysarum meadows > alpine lichen heaths ≥ alpine snow-bed communities ≥ Festuca varia meadows.
