Abstract

Summary. — The precise definition of orophilic criteria allows the isolation, among the 170 different species of Rhopalocera observed in the Cameroon Highlands, of only about 36 true orophilic species, which is a surprisingly low proportion, yet over-estimated. The main features characterizing these orobionts are a close relationship with the East African montane species and a very weak tendency to endemism : only one of the orobionts is really endemic of the Cameron Highlands. An attempt is made to correlate these results with the changes in climate and vegetation that occurred during Quaternary ages. Many informations are given on several peculiar species.
