Abstract

Laparoscopic surgery is becoming the standard treatment approach for benign ovarian tumors, even in the gestational period. The aim of this study was to evaluate a new method of laparoscopic surgery for ovarian tumors during pregnancy. Laparoscopic cystectomy was performed in 18 cases with ovarian tumor during pregnancy. The novel technique of our procedures was as follows: A transverse incision of approximately 3 cm was made above the pubic bone and placement of a new type of retractor was made in the wound. The pneumoperitoneum was achieved by a 10-mm trocar in the wound retractor. Another trocar was inserted under the umbilicus observing with the scope in the retractor, then the scope was transferred to an umbilical tracor. The ovarian cyst was brought out of the abdominal cavity with a specialized balloon, and a cystectomy was then performed.
