Abstract

A narrative review was carried out to determine the general panorama of sexual health assessment instruments in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI), facilitate their selection and identify current needs in this area. We searched for articles published from January 1, 1980 to August 5, 2017. We obtained 8 instruments validated in this population (4 in English and 4 in other languages), 4 instruments in English and 1 in Portuguese not validated in SCI and 2 developed for minimum information collection. In Spanish, only one non-specific questionnaire was found for patients with SCI. This review shows that evaluation instruments are scarce. There is a need for instruments that take into account current concepts in sexual health and that are validated in this population, in such a way that they facilitate the approach to this issue and its follow-up in clinical studies and the rehabilitation process.
