Abstract

In July 1989 the Torpa underground power plant will be commissioned with a 12,000 m3 doughnut shaped air cushion surge chamber. The cavern pressure will vary between 380 and 450 m of water column equivalent whereas the cavern depth of cover is only 225 m. A water curtain shaped as an umbrella over the cavern will prevent air leakage through the rock mass.
