Instructions for authors update

Abstract

We would like to draw your attention to recent updates in the Instructions for Authors. All papers now require 3–5 keywords, both in Manuscript Central for tracking papers and reviewers, but also in the text of the article, under the abstract. Please note the amended maximum word and reference counts for the new categories of papers:Original article: 8000 words, with abstract. Review: 6500 words and 50 references, with abstract. Short Contribution: 2500 words and 15 references. No abstract.Clinical update: 2500 words and 25 references. Case report: 2500 words and 15 references, with abstract. Photographs encouraged. Diagnostic challenge: 500 words, photographs preferred. History: 5000 words and 25 references, with abstract. Relevance to veterinary medicine in Australia preferred. Letters, obituaries and book reviews: please email to avjoffice@ava.com.au. Letter: maximum 1000 words. Obituaries: maximum 600 words: a brief overview of an AVA member's life and works. Photographs encouraged. Discuss with Editorial Office before submission. Book reviews: 500 words. Discuss unsolicited book reviews with Editorial Office before submission. Please note that the responsibility of making sure that manuscripts are submitted in the correct format and with a suitable standard of English rests with the authors. Papers will be returned without review if English is not of a sufficient standard. All submissions will be edited for clarity and length and will be published at the editors’ discretion.
