Abstract

Effective technology integration supports second-language acquisition for young language-learners by enhancing instruction, providing alternate methods for assessment, and facilitating teacher productivity. This article presents a practical strategy for influencing instructional design in the pre-service preparation of foreign-language teachers. Through a model literacy lesson designed for elementary-grade Spanish students, the article demonstrates how pre-service teachers are prepared to integrate technology to support the learning needs of a variety of students and address a range of learner abilities in addition to national curriculum standards. The theoretical framework for the integration techniques is addressed in the discussion of the cognitive rele vance of the instructional strategies. Software examples are discussed in terms of their appropriateness for literacy instruction.
