Nacel Professor Nagel holds a chair in the University of Illinios at Urhana-Champaign, but is better known for his work as academic entrepreneur in establishing the respected Policy Studies Organization (PSO), which now has members in a great many countries and which has played a leading role in encouraging research and publishing about policy-making and policy-relevant activities of governments. Through US universities it publishes two major quarterly journals (Policy Studies Journal and Policy Studies Review) and the regular newsletters Policy Evaluation and Developmental Policy Studies; and it sponsors the publication of policy-relevant monographs and research annuals through commercial publishers.
