Abstract

The countries of Asian and the Pacific are diverse but share the common feature of rapid economic growth. Generally energy and environment have not been well coordinated and considerable improvement is needed in institutional arrangements for these sectors. Specific areas of needed improvement are recommended here. Among these are greater weight to environmental management by source, expanding the scope of EIAs, incorporation of environmental management units within energy authorities and a preference for coordination over cooperation.
