Abstract

A new small/wide-angle neutron diffractometer (SWAN) was installed at a spallation pulsed-neutron source at KEK (KENS). SWAN utilizes incident neutrons having a wide wavelength band from a solid methane moderator at 26 K, and was designed to cover a wide momentum-transfer ( Q) range of 0.005≤ Q≤12 Å −1 with high intensity. It has been confirmed that the available Q range of SWAN is 0.008≤ Q≤2 Å −1, up to now. An additional refinement of the instrument and installation of detectors should lead to a realization of the designed Q-range.
