Abstract

A description is given of an installation in use for irradiation of substances by Co60 γ-radiation (280 g-equiv, radium) for radiochemical investigations with the use of a standard Co60 preparation. The apparatus was developed on the basis of a critical examination of installations described in the literature which are used for such investigations, and in conformity with the demands made upon modern radiochemical experimental work. The design of the apparatus is such as to permit various physicochemical measurements during irradiation, under safe conditions for the operators. The dose rate in the irradiation of objects 20–30 cc in volume is 120 r/second, and for objects up to 800 cc in volume, 30 r/second.
