Abstract

This paper presents an examination of the installation of tactile ground surface indicators (TGSIs). TGSIs are installed to to help guide visually impaired persons. They can be installed as either warning blocks indicating the location of hazards or destination facilities, or they can be installed as directional blocks indicating direction of travel. Focus is on the nature of installation methods, with particular attention given to installation errors. One of the primary objectives of the research is to eliminate inappropriate installations by preparing a manual of installation guidelines or standards.
